BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Texas Southern University senior Lauren Rodriguez was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference's Pitcher of the Week after her standout performance in competitions between March 26 and April 1.
Â
For the second week in a row, Rodriguez started and won both games of a TSU doubleheader sweep. In the Lady Tigers' Saturday sweep at Grambling, the senior hurler from Houston pitched a total of seven innings and struck out nine batters while allowing only four hits and a single run.
Â
In Saturday's opener, Rodriguez struck out five batters and allowed only one hit and one walk. She teamed with Tyra Williams to earn a combined 11-0 shutout in five innings.
Â
Having thrown only 51 pitches in the first game, she was TSU's starter again in game two. Rodriguez struck out four more batters in three innings without allowing a walk, and because the Lady Tigers again won in five innings, her three-inning start was enough to earn another win.
Â
The pair of wins improved her season won-loss record to 8-0. In her last six outings (five starts) dating back to March 7, Rodriguez has allowed just 10 hits and one earned run – two runs total – during that span.
