Solis named SWAC Pitcher of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Texas Southern University Aron Solis was named the Pitcher of the Week by the Southwestern Athletic Conference following a dominating weekend performance.

Solis pitched a two-hit shutout to lead the Tigers to 4-0 victory in game two of their Saturday doubleheader against Southern. A junior from League City, Texas, Solis had a no-hitter through six innings of work before Southern's Tyler LaPorte led off the seventh inning with a single.

The Jaguars managed to put only five runners on base over the entire game. Solis gave up only the two hits and walk in addition to hitting a batter, with TSU's defense allowing another baserunner on an error.

The win over Southern marked the first time Solis ever reached double-digits in strikeouts in a collegiate game, including his two seasons at Wharton County Junior College. His 6-2 record leads the team, and his six wins are tied for third in the SWAC.

Solis' performance also earned him the SWAC Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com.
