BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Texas Southern University volleyball player Kirby Anderson was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference's Newcomer of the Week following her performance in the team's matches from Oct. 17 through 23.

Anderson tallied 32 total blocks and hit .385 or better in six matches this week as the Lady Tigers defeated Jarvis Christian and went 4-1 at the second SWAC volleyball roundup. After knocking down seven kills on eight attempts (hitting .875) in a win over Alcorn State to open the weekend, Anderson put away 11 kills apiece in the next three matches (all wins), hitting at least .500 in each of those contests.

In wins over Alabama A&M and Mississippi Valley, Anderson was in on seven blocks. The transfer from South Carolina State finished the weekend with a 15-kill, .385-percent showing in a five-set loss to Alabama State. For the weekend, Anderson had 60 kills and hit .655 in six matches.
